Hellertoon: Kansas police cease presses with raid on native newspaper

Police in Marion, Kan., consider in a free press — one they may help
themselves to. In a blatant transfer to halt native investigative reporting,
they raided the places of work of the Marion Document newspaper final Friday.
Laughing and joking, they confiscated the computer systems and telephones of
reporters. Co-owner Joan Meyer, 98, died Saturday at her residence — the place
different expertise, together with her Alexa gadget, had been confiscated.

The
search warrant the cops used was “withdrawn” Wednesday, after an area
prosecutor decided that “inadequate proof exists to determine a
legally adequate nexus between the alleged crime and the locations
searched and the gadgets seized.”

However
returning computer systems and exhausting drives will not carry again Meyer. And what
will native police do to revive public confidence that they are going to uphold
the Structure?
